The Question of Faith
When hurtling along an interstate road at night at top speed, you trust that the road is without any major sink holes or faults. You have a deep seated confidence that all will be fine... But there is also a slight flutter in your heart as you consider the alternative. Your speed indicates your commitment to the path, and there is no chance of backing out if things don't pan out. And in any case, you don't think there will be a need to do so. That's how I feel about this faith journey we're on. My trust in God's leading is rock solid... But my heart flutters as I consider what it would mean if He didn't come through for us. We've left jobs, schools, and a church community that loves us. We have no idea what the future holds. I've had a number of words similar to this one: You know when you're a kid, and you run up to the swimming pool and try to keep running as far as you can on the water, but of course you sink straight in? The word of the Lord through praying friends has been 'Keep running. In this instance, you won't sink.' Like Peter, we have taken a step of faith onto the water. But unlike Peter, God will have us to keep walking. So yes, we hurtle along at top speed on an unknown road, trusting our guide. We have committed to the journey and backing out is not possible at this speed. Our hearts may flutter and our tummies flip flop every now and then, but we just keep setting our faces towards Him and trusting in His leading. In the mean while, we are taking this rare and wonderful opportunity to reflect on the great moments and lessons of the past, to enjoy extra time with our family and friends that is not possible during ordinary life, and to look forward with anticipation to a glorious, albeit unknown, future.
